Day 4, 1/28/10
On day four of class we joined a discussion group called ,Web 2.o and Schools - Discussion , on Facebook. The discussion group is a place where the class can talk with each other and voice their opinion in an informal setting. By joining this group this assignemnt falls under the ISTE NETS' standard three, Model Digital-Age Work and Learning, teachers exhibit knowledge, skills, and work processes representative of an innovative professional in a global and digital society. Standard 3B&C states: teachers collaborate with students, peers, parents, and community members using digital tools and resources to support student success and innovation and communicate relevant information and ideas effectively to students, parents, and peers using a variety of digital-age media and formats. In my classroom I don't think I'll use Facebook. I consider Facebook a more of a personal social network to connect with people not a teaching object. If I had to use Facebook, I would consider using a lesson like this in a classroom were students can have a help discussion group.

You make a good point about Facebook being more of a social tool than a classroom tool! I wouldn't use it in a K-12 setting either...but I thought it was an interesting experiment for college students...plus I wanted faculty here to have a better understanding of the affordances and constraints of Facebook.
